- Who we are: The people who lead these groups, Johana, Patricia, Reg, Albert, Natasha, and Emily, are all LGBTQ+ people with live experience with mental health contitions in ourselves and/or our loved ones. We create safe spaces where all LGBTQ+ folks can be real about the successes and challenges of living life with mental health symptoms, where we can listen and share stories and rsources.
- What you can expect from NAMI LGBTQ+ Groups: You can expect a space that is inclusive and where you are seen. The facilitaors listen and honor your experiences, your identities, your histories... those of you and people who are close to you. This space is where you can open up about living with mental health conditions, and meet people who understand what it is like to be affected by mental health conditions in yourself and/or those you love.
- Not group therapy: Group members share what has worked for them, such as comunication techinques they have learned and resource they may have tried, as well as the adventures and transformations they have gone through on this mental health journey. We do not enforce any one approach. We share with "I statements" what we ourelves have experienced. NAMI Support Groups are differnt from gropu therapy (which is led by mental health providers). We are NOT mental health providers. We are sharing from lived experience.
- Grow with us: These support groups started in June 2024. You are invited to join as we grow a holistic and inclusive community full of LGBTQ+ folks who got each other's backs. We want this group to offer mental health space and support for LGBTQ+ people for years to come. The group is based in Los Angeles but welcome LGBTQ+ people from anywhere in the universe looking for family and support to log on to our 3rd Thursday Zoom support groups.
